Popping Bubbles With Domaine Bousquet Organic Sparkling Wines #WorldWineTravel

This month, the #WorldWineTravel writers are embracing the holiday spirit and embarking on a journey to explore the effervescent wonders of sparkling wines from South America. Our host is Camilla of Culinary Cam.

I love popping bubbles year round because opening bottle of sparkling wine feels like a celebration to me. After all, why not revel in both the grand and the modest pleasures of life?

As the holiday season unfolds, the inherently festive and celebratory nature of sparkling wines imparts an additional layer of joy to gatherings, making every occasion a little more magical!

In My Glass

Fortunate indeed, I found myself in possession of three bottles of Domaine Bousquet sparkling wine!

Fruit for all three wine were sourced from their estate vineyards, planted on gravel and sandy soil in the Tupungato, Alto Gualtallary, Uco Valley (Mendoza) Argentina at about 4,000 feet altitude.

Domaine Bousquet Brut Rosé

It’s blend of 75/25% hand-picked Pinot Noir/Chardonnay fermented on selected yeast. Second fermentation in stainless steel tanks.

Tasting Note: Pale salmon color with strawberry, raspberry, Key lime zest and talc aromas. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, dry and very fresh with tart fresh red fruit flavors that echo its aromas complicated with an appealing mineral notesResidual Sugar – 8.2 g/L|ABV – 12%| SRP – $13

Domaine Bousquet Traditional Method Brut and Rosé

These wines are also blends hand-picked Chardonnay and Pinot Noir/Chardonnay fermented on selected yeast. However, these two traditional method sparkling wines, are vinified utilizing the same technique as Champagne, undergo secondary fermentation in the bottle and age for six months on the lees.

Domaine Bousquet Traditional Method Brut Tasting Note: Pale golden yellow color with green apple, pear and bread dough aromas. On the palate it has a creamy mousse and is medium-bodied, dry and very fresh with tart fresh green apple, ripe pear and mixed lemon and lime zest flavors that echo its aromas.  Blend of 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir. Residual Sugar – 8.1 g/L|ABV – 12%| SRP – $18

Domaine Bousquet Traditional Method Brut Rosé Tasting Note: Very pale salmon color with inviting strawberry, raspberry, stone fruit, lime zest and pastry dough aromas. On the palate it has a creamy mousse and is medium-bodied, dry and very fresh with tart raspberry, just ripe strawberry and nectarine flavors that echo its aromas. Blend of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay. Residual Sugar – 8.1 g/L|ABV – 12%| SRP – $18

The distinctions between sparkling wines crafted through tank secondary fermentation and those following the traditional method with secondary fermentation in the bottle are vividly evident here. The first wine presents a more pronounced profile of fresh fruit-forward aromas and flavors, while the two traditional method wines exhibit added complexity, featuring a creamier mouthfeel and subtle toasty/yeasty notes.

About Domaine Bousquet

Founded on pristine land in 1997, Domaine Bousquet established its roots in the Gualtallary sub-zone of Tupungato, nestled within Mendoza’s Uco Valley. The inception of this visionary venture traces back to third-generation French winemaker Jean Bousquet (Boo-Skay), whose love affair with the Gualtallary Valley—a scenic, remote, arid expanse in the Tupungato district of the Uco Valley—sparked a journey of commitment and sacrifice. Selling virtually everything, including the family winery and vineyards in Southwest France, Bousquet laid the foundation for his winemaking dream in Argentina.

Sustainability, Climate Action and Social Responsibility

Today, guided by the visionary leadership of daughter Anne Bousquet and her husband Labid al Ameri, Domaine Bousquet stands as Argentina’s largest producer and exporter of wines made exclusively from certified organic and biodynamic grapes. In a momentous achievement in 2022, they attained what is widely recognized as the gold standard of comprehensive sustainability—the Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC).

The ROC certification, demanding excellence in soil health, land management, animal welfare, and farmer and worker fairness, underscores Domaine Bousquet’s commitment to holistic practices. This landmark accomplishment signifies a global milestone, with the estate becoming the fourth ROC winery certified and the first outside the US. Additionally, in 2022, Domaine Bousquet proudly earned B Corp status, aligning with a global network of for-profit organizations dedicated to being a force for good. This commitment reflects a long-term vision for a more inclusive, regenerative global economy that benefits people, communities, and our planet

A global problem, a global solution. It’s common sense. As a trained economist, I firmly believe climate change must be combated with practical, implementable, and measurable global sustainability standards. With some of the best minds and leaders in the wine industry working together via the Sustainable Wine Roundtable, we can win the battle.” — Co-owner Domaine Bousquet, Anne Bousquet

Lastly, and perhaps most significantly, acknowledging that farming alone cannot fully address the urgent matter of climate action, Domaine Bousquet proudly stands as a founding member of the Sustainable Wine Roundtable (“SWR”), a unique coalition of leading wine brands, small producers, distributors, retailers, and environmental organizations who are united in their commitment to make the wine sector a leader in sustainability.

Hopefully, I whetted your appetite to seek out these organic sparkling wines from Domaine Bousquet. Not only are they affordable, but they also surpass expectations, delivering exceptional value for their price point! And I love supporting wineries who are making a tangible difference when it comes to comprehensive sustainability and climate action.
