This week’s Wine of the Week is more than a sparkling rosé—it’s a tribute. The 2020 Domaine Carneros Single Vineyard Crane Cuvée Brut Rosé not only delights the palate but also honors the legacy of one of California’s great sparkling wine pioneers. Distinctive, delicious, and deeply rooted in tradition, it’s a wine that resonates far beyond the glass.
About Domaine Carneros
Perched among the rolling hills of Napa Valley’s Carneros region, Domaine Carneros is synonymous with elegant méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines. Founded in 1987 through a partnership between the Taittinger family of Champagne and trailblazing winemaker and CEO Eileen Crane, the estate quickly established itself as one of California’s leading sparkling houses—seamlessly marrying French heritage with California character.
For more than three decades, Crane defined the winery’s style and reputation, guiding it to national prominence before retiring in 2020. She was succeeded by Remi Cohen, a respected industry leader with deep expertise in viticulture and winery management. Under Cohen’s leadership, Domaine Carneros has expanded its sustainability initiatives, growing its solar array, building a microgrid, and furthering its Napa Green and Fish Friendly Farming certifications—cementing its role as both a world-class winery and environmental steward.

The winery is equally celebrated for its hospitality. Seasonal “Bubbles & Bites” pairings, indulgent oyster or caviar experiences, and the gracious setting of its iconic château all reflect a philosophy that blends elegance with approachability. At its core, though, Domaine Carneros remains devoted to crafting wines from more than 400 acres of estate vineyards in the cool, windswept Carneros AVA—where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay thrive in perfect balance.
In The Glass
The 2020 Single Vineyard Crane Cuvée Brut Rosé is a historic and deeply personal release—the final blend crafted by Eileen Crane before her retirement. Sourced from the estate’s original vineyard surrounding the Château, it is the only single-vineyard rosé ever produced by Domaine Carneros. The special label, featuring a hand-sketched crane, serves as a fitting tribute to Crane’s 33-year legacy.
Tasting note:
Pale salmon color with red berries, citrus zest, toasted sourdough, macadamia nuts, floral, and spice aromas. On the palate it’s medium bodied with a delicate creamy mousse and bright acidity with flavors of raspberry, red cherry, lemon drop, lychee, spice and a very appealing saline minerality intertwined with a kiss of earthiness that adds depth and complexity.
What lingers most, though, is the texture—silky yet vibrant, with fine, persistent bubbles that glide gracefully across the palate. The finish is long and refined, leaving a lasting impression of freshness and poise.

Final Thoughts
The 2020 Crane Cuvée Brut Rosé is more than just a standout sparkling—it carries a story. As Eileen Crane’s final blend, it captures both the elegance she championed and the sense of place that defines Domaine Carneros. What impressed me most wasn’t only its balance of fruit, minerality, and spice, but the texture: creamy yet vibrant, a detail that made each sip linger just a little longer. It’s a wine that feels both celebratory and personal—one I’ll remember not just for how it tasted, but for the legacy it represents.

Ooh, this wine sounds lovely! Do you know if it’s available nationwide, or just through the winery?
We have long enjoyed their bubbles and our few visits there. This one sounds particularly special but sadly we won’t be able to get it up here. Will sip vicariously through you lol!
