Copain Wines
Copain Wines was founded in 1999 by winemaker Wells Guthrie with the vision of crafting wines that embody the elegance and balance of California’s cooler climates. Drawing inspiration from his time in Burgundy and the Rhône Valley, Guthrie focused on creating restrained, classic European-inspired wines that express a true sense of place. Nestled in the rolling hills of Healdsburg, Copain became known for its Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Chardonnay, sourced from some of the top vineyards in Anderson Valley, Mendocino, and Sonoma County. Copain’s commitment to regenerative agriculture, minimalist winemaking, and zero-waste practices further reflects their dedication to preserving the land and crafting wines with purity and finesse. In 2016, Copain was acquired by Jackson Family Wines, a move that expanded its reach while maintaining its philosophy of producing wines that showcase the vibrant acidity and distinctive terroir of their cool-climate origins.

2016 Copain Chardonnay DuPratt Vineyard
Tasting Note: Golden yellow color with aromatic yellow apple, pear, nectarine, Meyer lemon, wet stone, chamomile, buttered toast, and a hint of caramel aromas. On the palate it’s medium-bodied and very fresh with green and yellow apple, nectarine, Meyer lemon, chamomile, and a hint of flavors with a very appealing wet stone minerality. Long finish. 100% barrel fermented chardonnay raised in 95% neutral oak, 5% new French oak 13.1 ABV| 92pts
Dungeness crab season is in full swing here in Northern California, and its naturally sweet, succulent meat often tempts us to skip the melted butter—though that’s a delight in its own right. Meanwhile, our Meyer lemon trees are bursting with fruit, offering a golden opportunity for a perfect pairing. Let me tell you, the combination of Dungeness crab with a fresh squeeze of Meyer lemon juice and this wine was pure magic—bright, zesty, and utterly harmonious.
