Celebrate Harvest Season Livermore Valley Style!

For winemakers, harvest season, when the bulk of the grapes are pick, pressed and fermented, brings anxiety, long hours, and a multitude of critical decisions to be made.  Also, know as crush season, it has historically also been a time to celebrate the harvest.

That’s especially true this year for the annual Livermore Valley’s Harvest Wine Celebration, which for the first time in its 36-year history was cancelled last year due to extreme heat.

What to Expect at the Livermore Harvest Wine Celebration

Here’s my advice for maximizing your enjoyment at a large-scale event like this

  • Plan ahead to minimize driving between destinations.
  • Get there as early as you can.  It can get very crowded in the afternoon, especially at the more popular wineries.  It’s also a great way to beat the heat a bit!
  • Pace yourself.  It’s not a race.  Take some breaks.
  • Eat and stay hydrated
  • Use dump buckets or spit- liberally!
  • Don’t wear perfume of cologne
  • Wear dark clothes
