Wine of The Day: 2013 Silverado Vineyards SOLO Cabernet Sauvignon

2013 Silverado Vineyards SOLO Cabernet Sauvignon; An elegant and well-structured Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the Stag’s Leap District.

IMG_0393

Fruit for this wine is from a single eponymous vineyard that surrounds their estate winery in the Stag’s Leap District of Napa Valley.  It is 100% UCD FPS 30, the Disney Silverado Heritage Clone.  It was aged 18 months in about half new French oak.

Opaque purple color with alluring cherry, black raspberry, violet, leather and vanilla aromas. On the palate it’s medium-bodied, and persistent with mouth-watering acidity, and polished tannins that lend to its supple and elegant character. It shows focused black currant, black cherry, blackberry, plum and vanilla flavors with a hint of cola. Long finish.  Approachable now, but will reward further cellaring for at least another 10 years. (Outstanding – 92pts)

Pair with: We enjoyed this with our Easter dinner which featured Roasted Boneless Leg of Lamb! A great pairing!  Also consider Cabernet Braised Venison Cheeks, or Grilled Steak with Salsa Verde,

About Silverado Vineyards

Silverado Vineyards was founded in 1981  by Diane Disney Miller and Ron Miller.  But they had purchased two properties in the late Seventies, including the 93-acre Silverado Ranch and sold fruit to other wineries.  The current winemaker Jonathan Emmerich has been on board since 1998!  You can see the complete history of the winery (including timeline) here.
