I’ve gone back to the Elden Selections and ordered more wine. It was the first time I’ve ever purchased wine from an online wine store!
Burgundy (a.k.a. “Bourgogne”) is one on the world’s premier wine regions. Dominated by two of the world’s great grape varieties – Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, it is a region steeped in tradition. But the combination of tradition, terroir (there are 1,200+ climats, and innumerable lieux-dits) and over 3,000 wine producing domaines make the region seem as complex as its best wines.
I love Burgundy wine, but I don’t purchase much of it because I know little about the region outside of the most renowned producers whose prices are far beyond what I’m willing to pay.
That’s why I jumped at the opportunity to order six (complimentary #sample) wines from Elden Selections, a Burgundy-only Online Wine Store.

About Elden Selections
Established in 1992 by expats Eleanor Garvin and Dennis Sherman (El + Den), who have lived and worked in Burgundy for over 30 years, Elden is the only one of its kind Burgundy-centric online wine store in the U.S.
It’s not a wine club. Customers can select the wine, quantity (even just a single bottle) and delivery time, with no commitment and a no-questions-asked return policy.
Their wines are sourced from producers the Shermans have known for years, that craft small quantity, minimal-intervention, farmer-made, food-friendly estate-bottled wines. Their website currently offers about 250 products from 30 producers. Their philosophy is don’t buy the appellation, buy the producer. I couldn’t agree more!
They couple is dedicated to the proposition that you can drink Burgundy every day. Moreover, they are passionate about sharing their deep knowledge of the region. The website is a great resource for everything from the terroir, and classification levels to how to read a Burgundy wine label.
Wines Tasted

The 2015 Domaine Mouton, Givry 1er Cru ‘Clos Jus’ pours a translucent ruby color is redolent with appealing red fruit, sous bois, dried rose and spice aromas. On the palate it’s medium bodied with mouthwatering acidity and a plush texture framed by velvety tannins. It showed raspberry, pomegranate, a bit of red cherry, and warm spice flavors with a very appealing minerality and a lengthy finish. 13% abv| SRP – $46 The wine was excellent paired with Porchetta (Pork and Pinot is a match made in heaven, Yes?)
When I saw this wine, it brought back some great memories of when my wife and I traveled to France with friends in 2018. At the time, we knew nothing about Savigny les Beaune. We didn’t really know where to go tasting (it was during the very busy harvest season), but we saw this sign and took advantage of the photo op. Little did I know, I would have the opportunity to “revisit” the appellation via this bottle!
The 2017 Domaine Jean Jacques-Girard, Savigny les Beaune Blanc pours a pale straw color with enticing baked apple, pear, mixed citrus, and subtle vanilla spice aromas. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and harmonious with vibrant acidity. It shows mixed green and golden apple, pear, lime, lemon cream, and vanilla flavors with a hint of dragonfruit and an appealing minerality with a very satisfying finish. 13% abv|SRP – $54 It was wonderful paired with Grilled Trout!
Both wines were well crafted and compelling. I look forward to trying the others.
If you enjoy the wines of Burgundy, but don’t have the time, or inclination to invest in acquainting yourself with the intricacies of the region and its wines, let Elden Selections be that trusted “insider” friend who knows the region and where to find value.
The fusion of the sample wines I tried, the shopping experience and the learning resources on the website made Elden Selections a five -star experience for me!
